The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of doxycycline on the pharmacokinetics of doxycycline in normal subjects using in vivo and in vitro models.
Methods:We conducted a study on the pharmacokinetics of doxycycline in healthy subjects using in vivo and in vitro models. In vivo models were performed by taking 10 healthy subjects who were given doxycycline as a single oral dose for 7 days. In vitro models were used to investigate the effects of doxycycline on the pharmacokinetics of doxycycline.
Results:In vitro pharmacokinetic experiments showed that the oral and intramuscular doses of doxycycline were significantly different from each other. The average area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of doxycycline was 0.27 ± 0.13 mL/min/100 µL in the oral dose group and 0.21 ± 0.12 mL/min/100 µL in the intramuscular dose group. The mean AUC was 0.29 ± 0.23 mL/min/100 µL in the oral dose group and 0.14 ± 0.12 mL/min/100 µL in the intramuscular dose group.
Conclusion:In vitro studies showed that doxycycline had a greater effect on doxycycline hydrochloride compared to the control group.
